Mirage Hockey

The No. 2 seed Proctor/Hermantown Mirage used a four-goal third period to upend No. 1 seed Duluth Marshall, 4-0, in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Section 7A Championship game Wednesday night at St. Luke's Sports and Event Center. The victory sends the Mirage to the MSHSL Girls Hockey Class A Tournament for the fourth-straight season.

Proctor/Hermantown outshot the Hilltoppers, 40-12, through the first two periods, but were not able to get the puck past goalie Ray Anderson before a Taylee Manion power play goal early in the third period finally opened the floodgates.  Katie Sandelin added another power play goal at 7:39, before Izy Fairchild and Morgan LaValley sealed a trip to the state tournament with back-to-back goals at 14:53 and 15:36.

Manion, Sandelin, Fairchild and Hailey Jussila each had two points for the Mirage, with LaValley, Hannah Graves and Grace Nichols adding one point apiece. Neelah McLeod had 23 saves in goal for Proctor/Hermantown.

The MSHSL Girls Hockey Class A State Tournament is set for Feb. 21-24 at the Xcel Energy Center and TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center.
