The Hermantown Speech Team had six students qualify for the MSHSL State Speech Tournament Saturday at Duluth Denfeld High School. Students need to place in the top-three of their category at the Section 7AA tournament to qualify for state.
In addition, for team sweepstakes, Hermantown placed third in the section. For team sweepstakes, points are earned based on the placement of all finalists. .
State Qualifiers include:
Paul Marinos - 11th Grade - Prose - 1st Place
Alee DeVlieger - 11th Grade - Creative Expression - 1st Place
Izzy Lampi - 10th Grade - Humorous Interpretation - 1st Place
Tessa Sibell Scheppy - 9th Grade - Humorous Interpretation - 2nd Place
Onida Jashari - 12th Grade - Original Oratory - 3rd Place
Linnea Wentzel - 7th Grade - Extemporaneous Speaking - 3rd Place (not pictured)
The Class AA State Tournament is set to take place April 24 at Park Center High School in Brooklyn Park, Minn.
