Hermantown delivered another commanding Northeast Red Conference football performance Wednesday night, using a balanced offense and a dominant defensive effort to defeat Rock Ridge 42-12 at Centricity Stadium.
The Hawks scored 21 points in the first quarter, added 14 in the second and another touchdown in the third while piling up 396 yards of total offense. Hermantown rushed for 259 yards on just 21 carries, averaging an extraordinary 12.3 yards per attempt, and added 137 yards passing.
Senior running back Kalven Skur led the ground attack with 114 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, averaging 16.3 yards per attempt. Owen Simonson added 57 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries, including a 39-yard run, while Bryson Eischen contributed 15 yards and a touchdown on two attempts.
Hermantown's passing game was equally efficient. Quarterback Sawyer Senst completed 7 of 10 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Vincent Bolf completed both of his attempts for 11 yards and another touchdown.
Sam Witty led the Hawks' receivers with four catches for 57 yards, while Kole Lendzyk added a 48-yard reception. Simonson caught a 12-yard touchdown pass, and Liam Worthington contributed a 10-yard touchdown reception.
The Hawks finished with six touchdowns, four rushing and two passing, while averaging 11.6 yards per offensive play. Hermantown produced 18 first downs and did not punt.
Rock Ridge struggled to establish consistent offensive production against the Hawks' defense. The Wolverines finished with 174 total yards, including 102 rushing on 25 attempts, and managed only nine first downs.
Abrahm Reed led Rock Ridge's ground attack with 46 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Liam Holland added 33 yards on four attempts.
Rock Ridge quarterback Bryson Borich completed just 3 of 14 passes for 22 yards and threw two interceptions. John Westby completed his only pass for a 50-yard touchdown to Ryder Peters, who finished with two receptions for 57 yards.
Hermantown's defense held Rock Ridge to 1-for-7 on third-down conversions and 1-for-3 on fourth down. The Wolverines completed only four of their 15 passes, a 27% completion rate.
The Hawks also played disciplined football, committing just two penalties for 15 yards. They finished without a turnover, completing 9 of 13 passes overall.
The offensive disparity was substantial. Hermantown outgained Rock Ridge 396-174 despite running four fewer offensive plays, 34-38. The Hawks generated 222 more yards, averaged more than twice as many yards per rushing attempt and scored on six of their eight possessions.
Perhaps most impressive was Hermantown's ability to generate explosive plays without relying on a high volume of offensive snaps. Skur and Simonson combined for 171 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries, while the Hawks' passing attack added another dimension to an already dangerous offense.
Hermantown's 42-point performance provided another demonstration of its offensive firepower entering the postseason.
