Hermantown Boys Track and Field Team placed second at sections

The Hermantown Track & Field Team had 11 athletes advance to the 2026 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class AA Boys and Girls Track & Field Tournaments with their performances at the Section 7AA Tournament Wednesday and Saturday at Rock Ridge High School in Virginia.

The boys 4x100M relay team of Tanner Homstad, Owen Simonson Corban Peterson and Martin Sleen set a Section 7AA record and new PR with a time of 42.99 to take the section title.

Sleen also advanced in the 100M (1st - 11.13) and the 200M (2nd - 22.41), while Homstad advanced in the triple jump (2nd - 42'11") and long jump after tying the school record with a jump of 21'9.5". Simonson joined Homstad as a long jump qualifier with a mark of 21'5".

Zach Wunner will represent the Hawks in the 110M Hurdles after finishing second with a time of 15.64 and Neo Carlson advanced in Discus with a throw of 163'8".

The girls 4x200M relay team of Eva Elnes, Taraji Holets, Claire Niksich and Jailynn Sherill clocked a time of 1:48.44 to advance to the State Tournament, while Elnes will also compete individually in the triple jump after posting a mark of 35'9".

As a team, the boys finished second with 90 total points, but qualified more entries for the state meet than top-finisher Grand Rapids by an 8-6 margin.
