Hermantown senior Hunter Nelson, a Mr. Soccer Minnesota nominee who finished with 14 goals and 13 assists this past season, signed last Wednesday to continue his collegiate soccer career at Hamline University.
Nelson signed his letter of commitment during a ceremony at Hermantown High School attended by family members, teammates, coaches, school staff and community supporters.
The Hawks standout helped lead Hermantown to the Section 7A semifinals during his senior season while tying for the team lead in goals. Four of his goals were game-winners.
Over his final three varsity seasons, Nelson compiled 27 goals and 34 assists in 49 career matches. He recorded 10 goals and 10 assists as a junior before elevating his production during his senior season.
Nelson earned first-team all-conference, first-team all-state and all-area honors during his final season at Hermantown. He also maintained a 4.0 grade-point average while balancing academics and athletics.
“His dedication, leadership, and commitment to the Hermantown soccer program have earned him this outstanding opportunity, and we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished,” school officials said in a statement announcing the signing ceremony.
In addition to his high school accomplishments, Nelson competed in club soccer for St. Croix Academy’s ECNL program and participated in Minnesota Olympic Development Program events.
Hamline competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division III level.
