The Hermantown High School boys basketball team has opened the 2025–26 season with two victories through its first six games, while facing a mix of nonconference and Lake Superior Conference opponents.
The Hawks opened the season Nov. 29 with a 97–78 loss at Princeton, a high-scoring game that set the tone for a demanding opening stretch.
Hermantown followed with road losses at Hibbing (87–47) on Dec. 5 and Caledonia (90–63) on Dec. 6.
Hermantown earned its first win on Dec. 9, pulling away late for a 76–69 victory over Proctor in conference play.
The Hawks continued to battle through a difficult December schedule, falling 99–55 at Bemidji last Friday before responding the next night with their most notable result to date.
Hermantown defeated Bloomington Jefferson 73–68 in overtime on Saturday, earning a nonconference win against a Class 4A opponent.
The Hawks will visit nonconference Harding on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Hermantown girls basketball team has played five games in the opening weeks of the 2025-26 season, posting a 2-3 record against a mix of nonconference and Lake Superior Conference opponents as December play continues.
The Hawks opened the season Nov. 25 with a 60-27 loss at Bemidji. Aurora Decker and Bailey Hermanson led Hermantown with seven points apiece, while Bryden Giesen added six points and Jailynn Sherill scored five.
Hermantown rebounded on Dec. 2 with a 100-30 victory over North Branch.
The Hawks returned to Lake Superior Conference play Dec. 4 and dropped a 74-35 decision to Proctor against one of the league’s top early-season teams.
Hermantown responded the following night with a 68-59 win over Esko on Dec. 5.
Most recently, Hermantown fell 75-34 at Grand Rapids last Friday night.
The Hawks will next host Duluth East on Tuesday and Duluth Denfeld Friday. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
