Hermantown high school fall sports practices set to begin Aug. 11 

The official start of fall sports for Hermantown High is just around the corner, with Monday, Aug. 11, marked as the first day of sanctioned practice for all MSHSL-approved boys and girls sports.

The unified start date applies to every fall sport — from football and volleyball to cross country, soccer, girls tennis, and girls swimming and diving. 

The consistent Aug. 11 start includes all varsity, junior varsity, B-squad and freshman levels.

The 2025 Hermantown fall sports season will formally begin with regular-season competition in most sports the week of Aug. 25. Section and state tournaments are scheduled throughout October and early November.

Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of Hermantown’s opening week schedule:

Monday, Aug. 11

  • 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Cross Country (Boys & Girls) opens preseason conditioning in the Auxiliary Gym.

  • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Football (Varsity/JV/C) begins official practice at Centricity Stadium’s turf field.

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Volleyball (Varsity/JV/C) holds its first workout in the Hermantown High School Gym.

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Girls Soccer opens tryouts at the Hermantown Middle School fields near the YMCA.

  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Boys Soccer follows with its tryout session at Centricity Stadium.

Tuesday, Aug. 12

  • 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Cross Country (B&G) resumes training in the Auxiliary Gym.

  • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Football (V/JV/C) practices shift to the High School practice field.

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Volleyball (V/JV/C) continues in the HS Gym.

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Girls Soccer tryouts continue, this time at Centricity Stadium.

  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Boys Soccer remains at Centricity for more tryout sessions.

  • 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.Seventh- and eighth-grade football players pick up equipment and attend the program introduction at Centricity Stadium.

Wednesday, Aug. 13

  • 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Cross Country (B&G) practices again in the Auxiliary Gym.

  • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Football (V/JV/C) returns to Centricity Stadium.

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Volleyball (V/JV/C) drills continue in the HS Gym.

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Girls Soccer returns to the Middle School field for more tryout action.

  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Boys Soccer extends its evaluations at Centricity.

  • 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. — A second session of equipment distribution and program introduction is scheduled for middle school football players.

Thursday, Aug. 14

  • 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Cross Country (B&G) practice continues.

  • 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Football (V/JV/C) practices at Centricity.

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Volleyball (V/JV/C) sessions remain in the HS Gym.

  • 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Girls Soccer practice returns to the Middle School/ YMCA Fields.

  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Boys Soccer resumes at Centricity.

  • 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. — A third middle school football welcome event is scheduled at Centricity.

  • 5:30 p.m.Fall/Winter/Spring Parent and Athlete Meeting

    • Auditorium: Fall/Winter sports parents meet with Activities Director Alex White.

    • Breakout Rooms: Fall athletes (grades 9-12) meet with their respective coaches.

    • 6:15 p.m.: All Fall/Winter athletes (grades 7-12) reconvene in the auditorium with White.

Friday, Aug. 15

  • 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.Cross Country (B&G) wraps up its first week in the Auxiliary Gym.

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Football (V/JV/C) practices at Centricity.

  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Volleyball (V/JV/C) finishes the week in the HS Gym.

  • 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Girls Soccer (Varsity) holds a focused practice at the Middle School Field.

  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.Boys Soccer closes out tryouts at Centricity Stadium.

The full week marks a critical stretch for player evaluations, conditioning, and team formation as the Hawks prepare for the 2025 fall campaign. Practice times and field locations are subject to change based on weather and field conditions, school officials noted.
