Fifth-seeded Hermantown will face fourth-seeded Chisago Lakes in a Class 3A, Section 7 baseball playoff game at 4:30 p.m. today in Chisago Lakes. The visiting Hawks (8-10) fell to Chisago Lakes (9-10) 12-11 on May 16. Hermantown is led by pitcher-catcher River Freeman, one of only four seniors on the team.
Softball
Hermantown fell to Rock Ridge 5-4 in a Class 3A, Section 7 softball elimination final Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks, who finished their 2025 season 12-10 overall, had a strong post-season run, including a 15-0 victory over Grand Rapids in the opener, a 4-3 loss to Chisago Lakes in a quarterfinal and back-to-back elimination bracket victories over North Branch 8-3 and Grand Rapids 16-3. Hermantown seniors were catcher Mikayla Sweeney, third baseman Claire Kaups, first baseman Ella Schulz, second baseman Isabella Wojtysiak, outfielder Hope Kohanski and outfielder-infielder Norah Gunderson.
Section Hawks Boys Tennis
The Hermantown boys tennis team capped off its 2025 season last week with another strong showing in the playoffs. The Hawks secured an exciting first-round win over Marshall before facing a tough loss to top-seeded Rock Ridge in the second round.
Individual players had standout performances throughout the tournament. Cole Palokangas and Zach Shingler represented Hermantown in the singles draw, showcasing grit and skill. In doubles, Henrik Wikstrom and Jace Christy battled through a thrilling three-set match in the opening round, ultimately falling just short.
Senior captains Evn Flynn and Preston McClimick rounded out their season with an impressive doubles win in the first round and a hard-fought three-set match against Rock Ridge to close out their high school careers.
