Hermantown Proclaims April 8 as Mirage State Champions Day

Release from the City of Hermantown

Hermantown, Minn. – Hermantown will celebrate the first-ever Minnesota State High School League State Championship of the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage girls hockey team, as it has proclaimed April 8, 2021, as Proctor-Hermantown Mirage State Champions Day in Hermantown.

The shared girls hockey team of Hermantown and Proctor Schools garnered its first-ever state title with a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Gentry Academy in the championship game on Saturday, April 3. The victory also secured an undefeated season for the Mirage, putting the team’s final record at 21-0.

“We are so proud of these student-athletes and their coaches,” said Hermantown Mayor Wayne Boucher. “The courage, drive, and determination they exemplified this season is something we respect and value across our entire community.”

Mayor Boucher and the City Council passed a resolution proclaiming April 8, 2021, as the team’s day at Hermantown’s City Council Meeting on April 5. A similar proclamation was made for the same date in the City of Proctor.

“This team brings together two proud cities into one wonderful community,” Boucher said. “While we passionately compete against Proctor as our most-cherished rival in so many sports, it adds a bit more to this state championship that the Mirage represent both schools and both cities.”

Formed in 1997, the Mirage have won multiple section titles, but were playing in their first state championship game.
