Welcome to Hermantown High School
Hermantown High School is located at 4335 Hawk Circle Drive, just off of the northwest corner of Ugstad Road and Arrowhead Road. The building was originally opened in 1988 with an addition built in 1999. A new, state-of-the-art high school was completed in the fall of 2016. Our student population for grades 9-12 is 660. The school is still small enough for everyone to know each other, but large enough to offer a comprehensive list of course offerings.
The graduation requirements for Hermantown are well above the State diploma requirements. Students graduating from Hermantown High School must earn twenty-four credits, with 4 credits each in English and Social Studies, 3 credits each in Math and Science, 1.5 credits in Physical Education, ½ credit in Health, 1 credit in Fine Arts, and a minimum of 7 elective credits.
Academic departments include Art, Business, Career and Technology Education, Math, English, Music, Social Studies, Science, Special Education, World Language, and Physical Education. Students can earn over 40 college credits with our College-in-the-Schools courses through the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Lake Superior College.
There are numerous extracurricular opportunities in both activities and athletics. Recent state champions in athletics include the Class A boys' hockey team in 2007, 2016 and 2017, the girls' alpine team in 2013, and the girls' softball team in 2009. During the 2016-2017 school year, multiple teams and individuals qualified for state competitions. Hermantown also boasts strong fine arts programs including speech, drama, and music.
