Mr. Kerry Juntunen
Kerry Juntunen began his teaching career as a 4th grade long-term substitute in McGregor, Minnesota in January of 1984. He then taught 5th and 6th grade in Wrenshall, Minnesota from September of 1984 through Mayof 1999. He has served the Hermantown Community School District since August of 1999 as a 5th Grade Teacher, 6th Grade Teacher, Middle School Dean of Students, Director of Curriculum and Assessment, and Middle School Principal. He has been the Superintendent since July of 2015.
Hermantown Community Schools have, for a long period of time, enjoyed a highly visible and popular standing in our region. Our students do well in state-wide assessments, are often accepted to prestigious universities and technical colleges, excel in activities outside of the school day, and are well-prepared to enter an ever-changing work environment. There are three pillars upon which our educational structure is built. We are community centered, have enhanced learning opportunities through facility design and use, and carefully craft a systemic culture of care. Each element frames the expectation for our residents, faculty, administration, and students to work diligently toward the success of all.
A systemic culture of care is clearly observed in teacher-student interactions; in the way meals are served; and the multiple means by which our most challenged learners are encouraged by their peers. Our staff is deliberate and intentional is the way relationships are fostered and ultimately connect students to the rigor and relevance of learning.
With guarded care for tradition and a progressive attitude toward the future, Hermantown Community Schools will continue to lead in a way that will honor educational foundations for generations to come.
Kerry Juntunen, Superintendent
