September 06, 1991

On behalf of the community of Hermantown, we would like to this evening, dedicate our football field to the memory of Corey Veech, the late 3 sport athlete who was killed in an automobile accident in the fall of 1990.

Corey, a 1982 Hermantown High School graduate, led the Hawks in rushing and scoring plus led them to a berth in the State if Minnesota Class A football championship game during his high school career.

Although an avid basketball and baseball player, football was Corey’s game. He went on to win Little All American status for his play with the UMD Bulldogs in 1986. Corey is the holder of numerous football records at UMD.

Over the years Corey was an inspiration to the youth of Hermantown. He shared his talents with the young people through his dedication to the game by coaching becoming a friend to may aspiring athlete. As one former Hawk athlete put it upon learning of this death, “It’s like losing our Hermantown hero.”

In celebration, and that’s the way Corey would want it, of our “Hometown Hero” this evening, we will unveil and dedicate this memorial designating the Hermantown football field as Corey Veech Memorial Field.
